McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act

This program is to ensure that homeless children and youth have access to a free, appropriate public education, comparable to that provided to the children of any Arizona resident and consistent with Arizona’s mandatory school attendance laws. Determinations of eligibility under the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act: The term, ‘Homeless children and youth’, means individuals who lack a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence;

  • Fixed- one that is stationary, permanent, and not subject to change

  • Regular- one which is used on a regular basis

  • Adequate- one that is sufficient for meeting both the physical and psychological needs typically met in home environments.

Services provided by CRUHSD under McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act

  • Automatic enrollment in a new school without proof of residency, immunizations, or previous records

  • Receive transportation to their school of origin

  • School shirts

  • Basic school supplies

  • Transportation to and from school of origin

  • Personal care items

  • Free meal program at school

  • Title Services
